Solar In St George

Sydney Air & Solar handles solar panel installation and battery installation across St George, from our office in Peakhurst. We work in Hurstville, Oatley, Kogarah, Bexley, Rockdale and the suburbs between, on houses, semis and townhouses, and we add batteries to existing solar. Shaded and small roofs get panel-level electronics.

Across the 12 St George postcodes there are about 18,700 registered solar systems and nearly 4,000 home batteries installed since July 2025. St George homes have been choosing bigger batteries than most of Sydney: the average here is 33.8 kWh, and in Hurstville it is 36.7 kWh.

As solar installers we use our own crew, not subcontractors, and every system is tailored to your roof, your electricity bill and your energy needs. The business is family-owned and has run since 2000. Founder Alex Arnautovic is a licensed electrician and SAA designer who spent 16 years maintaining Qantas aircraft.

How Many St George Homes Have Solar and Batteries?

Clean Energy Regulator postcode data, compared with the number of houses and townhouses at the 2021 Census. Solar counts every system registered since 2001, upgrades included, so treat “per 100 houses” as a guide to how common solar is.

What the St George figures show

Hurstville buys the biggest batteries

Most homes in 2220 are units, but the houses there added batteries faster than anywhere else in St George: almost 9 for every 100 houses, averaging 36.7 kWh.

Blakehurst and Connells Point build the largest solar systems

New systems in 2221 over the last year averaged 12.3 kW, the biggest in the region, on large homes along the Georges River.

The bay side has room to grow

Sans Souci, Kogarah, Rockdale and Bexley sit between 26 and 29 systems per 100 houses, below the rest of St George.

Batteries

Did St George Batteries Get Smaller After the May 2026 Rebate Change?

The federal battery discount began in July 2025. From 1 May 2026 it pays less for each kilowatt-hour above 14 kWh. In St George:

July 2025 to April 2026
34.8 kWh

average battery, 3,388 installed

May to August 2026
27.6 kWh

average battery, 562 installed

Before the change, many St George homes bought very large batteries while the full rate applied. After it, sizes dropped by around 7 kWh. Late registrations will add to the recent months, but the pattern is clear.

A battery should match what you use after dark, so the solar energy you store gets used every evening. For most St George homes that is 10 to 15 kWh, which still earns the full rate. If a quote pushes you towards 40 kWh, ask what you would actually use it for.

One date to keep in mind: the rebate is fixed on installation day, and from 1 January 2027 the same battery earns about 16% less.

What Do St George Roofs Need for Solar?

A home battery mounted on the brick wall of a Sydney home's carport

Shaded terraces and older brick homes

Many streets around Hurstville, Kogarah and Penshurst have semi-detached homes and small roofs shaded by neighbours. Enphase microinverters keep a shaded panel from dragging down the rest.

Open roofs on bigger blocks

In Oatley, Lugarno, Peakhurst Heights and Blakehurst, roofs are often larger and less shaded, which suits a 10 kW system and a battery.

Units and strata

Hurstville, Kogarah and Rockdale have a high share of apartments. Solar on a strata building needs the owners corporation on board; we can tell you what is practical before you raise it.

Near the water

Sans Souci, Dolls Point, Kyle Bay and the Georges River foreshore get salt air. We use stainless fixings and coastal-rated equipment there.

Rebates

Solar and Battery Rebates in St George

We claim the rebates for you and take them off the invoice.

  • Solar panels (STC): about $1,700 off a 6.6 kW solar power system in 2026, under the federal Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme.
  • Batteries (Cheaper Home Batteries): about $252 per kWh for the first 14 kWh, less above that since 1 May 2026. The rate is set on the day the battery goes in, and it steps down again on 1 January 2027, by about 16%.
  • NSW VPP incentive: an extra payment for joining a virtual power plant, if it suits you.
How it works

How a St George Installation Works

Written workmanship warranty of up to 10 years, on top of the manufacturer warranties.

Accreditation: our designers and installers hold Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accreditation, which replaced Clean Energy Council (CEC) installer accreditation in May 2024, and we are a NETCC approved solar retailer.

Paperwork we handle: the STC and battery rebate claims, the grid connection application and network approval, and the electrical compliance certificate. What you see in your quote is the price after the rebate.

FAQ

Solar in St George: Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

Our office is at Boundary Road, Peakhurst, in the middle of St George. Most St George jobs are a short drive from base.

About 18,700 solar systems are registered across the region’s 12 postcodes, roughly 33 for every 100 houses. Peakhurst and Mortdale–Oatley have the highest rate at 37.

Before the rebate changed on 1 May 2026, the full rate applied to more of each battery, and many homes bought 30 kWh or more. Since then the average has dropped to about 28 kWh.

Usually, yes. Small or shaded roofs suit panel-level electronics like Enphase microinverters. We will tell you honestly if the roof is too small to be worth it.

Yes. We repair, maintain and clean solar systems, replace a failed solar inverter, and add solar batteries to an existing solar system.

We do not publish package prices, because the cost of solar panels depends on your roof, the system size, the switchboard and your tariff. You get a firm price after the site assessment, with rebates already off and the payback worked out from your own electricity prices.

Yes. Air conditioning is the other half of our business, and doing both together means one crew and one visit for the electrical work.

On most homes, no. Rooftop solar is exempt development under the NSW Transport and Infrastructure SEPP 2021. If your home is a heritage item or sits in a heritage conservation area, panels on the roof facing the street need sign-off from Georges River Council or Bayside Council first. We check this before we quote.
